Activate your soil with Biosys, our amazing microbe tea that’s ready in minutes—no brewing required. Biosys contains a unique blend of microbes and natural plant growth stimulants that work together to boost plant health. Easy and quick to mix and use, nothing immediately improves the health of your root zone quite like Biosys.
Available as a concentrated powder, Biosys is mixed with water to create an instant ‘microbial tea’. The microbes in Biosys improve root function, increase nutrient and water availability, help with disease prevention, speed up the breakdown of organic matter and massively improve plant growth.
Biosys also contains biological catalysts to facilitate activation and continued growth of beneficial bacteria and fungi within the root zone—right where you need them! These catalysts include humic acids, amino acids, enzymes, proteins, carbohydrates and seaweed extract. They all work together to activate and sustain the microbes in your potting mix.
When added to water and applied to the root zone, Biosys comes to life quickly, starting to improve the root environment of your crop. It is ideal for use outdoors on open soil and raised beds, as well as indoors with potting soil, coco, hydroponic growing media (such as rockwool) and even in hydroponic systems with little or no growing media.
Biosys is the ideal solution to (re)populate, stimulate and maintain biological balance in the root zone. For best results, growers apply Biosys during seedling or cutting propagation, with subsequent applications every one to two weeks indoors, and every four weeks outdoors. Biosys quickly populates the rhizosphere with a diversity of natural microorganisms that help to unlock your plants’ potential.
When it comes to describing how Biosys works and what it actually does, we could literally write books on the subject! (And, if you’re really interested, we highly recommend reading “Teaming with Microbes” by Jeff Lowenfels.) Here’s a quick overview of the key components of Biosys and how they confer massive benefits to your plants:
There are no fewer than eight species of Endo Mycorrhizae in Biosys. These beneficial fungi have enjoyed a special relationship with many plants for millions of years. The fungi works by spreading itself through the growing media, gathering water and nutrients through its fungal network. When the fungi finds compatible plant roots, it establishes “exchange sites” within the plant root cells called “arbuscules”. This connection facilitates an ingenious “symbiotic swap” whereby the plant gives the fungi surplus sugars (manufactured in the leaves and translocated to the roots) in exchange for access to more water and nutrients that were previously inaccessible. Plants benefit from increased growth rates and drought resistance. The mycorrhizal fungi also helps to improve the soil texture while spreading water and nutrients throughout the growing media as well as transporting them directly to the plant.
To complement the work of the mycorrhizae, Ecothrive add often overlooked mycorrhizae helper bacteria. These include several bacillus species and a nitrogen fixing bacteria called “Azospirillum'' that are known to help the establishment and ongoing function of mycorrhizae. The eight species of Bacillus in Biosys aren’t just for mycorrhizae support, however, but also useful for solubilising locked up minerals and degraded organic matter, inhibiting the growth of potential pathogens and promoting vigorous root growth.
Biosys also contains another species of nitrogen fixing bacteria called Azotobacter, as well as Azospirillum. Both these microorganisms live close to the root surface and fix nitrogen from the air before transforming it into a form the plants can use. These incredible microorganisms afford growers the opportunity to reduce their reliance on nitrogen inputs.
There are also two species of Pseudomonas that help with the degradation of complex organic matter and assist with pathogen control. Some of the Bacillus, Pseudomonas and Nitrogen fixers are also classed as plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. These clever organisms have evolved to produce hormone substances such as cytokinins and auxins to promote growth and root development.
No—Ecothrive not even done yet! Ecothrive have also included two species of Trichoderma in Biosys. Trichoderma are a highly sought-after beneficial fungi that are particularly well adapted to degrading other fungi, particularly the unhelpful (pathogenic) kind. Think of Trichoderma as security guards for your plant roots. They exist as free living organisms that help to prevent root disease as well as assisting greatly in the degradation and cycling of organic matter.
Finally, Ecothrive included a bunch of microbial catalysts and plant growth promoting foods – humic acids, amino acids, enzymes, yeasts, proteins, carbohydrates and seaweed extract. With so many benefits from one easy-to-use powder, it’s no wonder that growers who try Biosys never grow without it again!
First, make a concentrate to ensure the powder is dissolved. Example: Add 10g to 500ml of tepid water (~21°C). Stir thoroughly until dissolved. Add this concentrate to the larger volume of water. Once in Solution, use within 24 hours.
Beneficial microbes do not like chlorine in tap water. To remove chlorine you can:
